Outreach Coordinator: Rianne Rops, MSW

Rianne Rops is a recent graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University’s Master of Social Work program and is passionate about bringing church to life! Now at St. Mary’s, her role is to mobilize greater parish outreach to those who are poor, vulnerable, and marginalized.

Though new to Kitchener, Rianne grew up nearby in Mitchell, ON, and attended St. Michael Catholic Secondary School in Stratford. Following high school, Rianne volunteered two years as a full-time missionary which brought her as far north as Yellowknife, NT, as far west as Kelowna, BC, and as far east as Charlottetown, PEI! Though exciting, this ministry left Rianne seeking greater depth in her understanding of the Church. Consequently, Rianne completed a BA with an honours specialization in Catholic Studies at King’s University College in London with a minor in Biology at Western University. Here, she eagerly delved into church history, scriptural analysis, philosophy, and modern Catholic thought and absolutely loved it. However, it was during her time at King’s that Rianne began to notice a particular pull toward working with those on the margins. Listening to this call, Rianne switched gears and completed a Master of Social Work at WLU before launching this position at St. Mary’s where she is able to translate her passion and education into action. When she’s not at work, Rianne spends her time experimenting with adventurous recipes, biking around town, playing music, and planning community events with Hold the Line Waterloo Region.
