Our parish, St. Mary Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows is under the patronage of our Blessed Mother. This is the oldest Catholic parish in Kitchener and has been entrusted to the care of the Congregation of the Resurrection since its beginning. Together, the English-speaking congregation and the German-speaking congregation, constitute our parish family.
A parish is a community of the Christian faithful “who are thirsting for Christ” as St. John Paul II says in his book Gift and Mystery. It is an honour for Fr. Paul and myself to assist in quenching this thirst through the grace of the sacraments of God. The Jubilee of Mercy will be a time of healing; where mercy and grace intersect.
The motto of this Holy Year is “Be merciful just as your Father is merciful” (Lk 6:36). We are invited to practice mercy toward one another and to approach God’s Mercy in the sacraments. “The priest is the witness and instrument of Divine Mercy. It is in the confessional that his spiritual fatherhood is realized in the fullest way” (JPII). Therefore, do not be afraid to encounter Christ, especially in Reconciliation. Let us be filled with hope and peace as we ponder the full document of Pope Francis on the Jubilee of Mercy. By responding to God’s Grace and using the recommendations of Pope Francis and our Bishop Douglas, we will learn together the deep truth—that God is waiting for us with open arms.
With Love & Prayers,
In the Risen Christ,
